This Richmond property had three different surface types that all needed attention - bluestone patios in the back, a long concrete driveway out front, and a paver sidewalk running along the side of the house. Each one had its own set of issues. Algae and grime built up across the bluestone. The concrete had taken on that dull, weathered look that comes from years under tree cover. And the paver sidewalk had moss working its way into the joints pretty aggressively.

Bluestone is a material that needs to be treated with some care. It's dense, but it's also porous enough that organic growth gets into the surface and holds on. We cleaned it thoroughly without blasting the stone or disturbing the joints. Once the surface dried, the natural color variation in the stone - the blues, grays, and rust tones - came back clearly. That's what a proper cleaning does. It doesn't just remove dirt, it lets the material actually show up again.

The concrete driveway is a good example of why consistency matters on a job like this. A long driveway with tree canopy overhead tends to collect a lot of biological buildup over time - it's shaded, it stays damp, and things grow. We worked the full length of it edge to edge, and the result is a surface that looks uniform and clean all the way back to the shed.

The paver sidewalk was the most visually obvious before. Moss had filled in across the joints and spread onto the face of the pavers themselves. After cleaning, the pavers came out looking sharp and the joints were clear. Paver surfaces like this benefit from re-sanding after a cleaning - it helps stabilize the joints and keeps organic growth from re-establishing as quickly.

If your outdoor surfaces are in a similar spot - stained, slick, or just looking beat down - a proper cleaning makes a real difference. Sometimes that's all it takes to get things looking like they belong to the house again.
